FAIRFAX, Va. – A five-run second inning by George Mason ended in a 10-2 final over Lafayette on Saturday afternoon in the Patriot Classic.
Kinzi Van Wyk, who was the Leopards' starting pitcher, got Lafayette on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning, lifting an offering over the wall in left field. It was her first collegiate home run and one of five Leopards hits in the game.Â
Lafayette scored again in the fifth inning.
Erin Scott singled and later scored when
Natasha Miner drew a bases-loaded walk.Â
Mason's Rachel Warrens delivered the big hit in the decisive second inning, clearing the bases with a double off Van Wyk. The hosts (3-9) scored a pair of runs in the first and third innings.Â
Van Wyk threw four innings, allowing nine runs on 11 hits with four walks and a strikeout. Beka Ansbro collected the circle victory, surrendering two runs on five hits. Â
Lafayette (0-2) will finish off the Patriot Classic on Sunday vs. Radford at 9 a.m. and Delaware at 1:30 p.m.
