Lafayette Falls in Regular Season Finale to Bucknell

The Leopards will head to Holy Cross on Monday for a quarterfinal game

EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette Women's Basketball fell to Bucknell, 57-47, in Kirby on senior day to end its regular season campaign. With the loss, the Leopards have earned the fifth seed and will play the fourth seed, Holy Cross, on Monday in the Patriot League Tournament quarterfinals.  

The Leopards (15-13, 11-7 PL) were led by junior Natalie Kucowski who totaled 21 points and 12 rebounds to mark her 19th double double of the season.

Bucknell (23-6, 16-2 PL) came out strong in the first quarter, jumping out to a quick 5-0 lead. They continued to pour on the points in the first, quarter, heading into the second frame up 18-13 after Kucowski put in a three from beyond the arc to cut the Bison's lead to five. 

The Bison's offense continued to hold strong against the Leopards defense, pushing their lead out to 12 by the half and by the end of the third quarter, out to a 44-31 lead.

Junior Drew Freeland tried to start a comeback for the Leopards in the start of the fourth quarter making back-to-back three-pointers to cut the Bison's lead to 10 but it wasn't enough as the Bison went up 54-43 with less than four minutes left in the game and despite a late fourth quarter push by the Leopards, hung on to walk away with the regular season finale, 57-47.

With the loss, Lafayette has earned the fifth seed in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament. They have earned a first-round bye and will play the number four seed, Holy Cross, on Monday in Worcester, Massachusetts. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
