Field Hockey Scores Seven Goals for Senior Day Victory

Lafayette 7, Drexel 0

EASTON, Pa.- The Lafayette field hockey team hosted Drexel on Sunday afternoon, dominating the Dragons 7-0 on Senior Day. The Leopards are now 11-3 overall and 3-1 in Patriot League play.

The Leopards celebrated seven seniors and their accomplishments in the announcements before starting lineups: Molly McAndrew, Kara Tiedtke, Alix Talkow, Mary Gould, Audrey Sawers, Hailey Abbott, and Becca Harbert. Each graduating student-athlete was walked onto the field by their parents or siblings to receive flowers and cheers from their fellow teammates.

Senior striker Alix Talkow started the Leopards scoring drive at 10:06 in the first quarter. Talkow took it all the way to the net by herself from the 25 yard line to pull around Drexel's goalkeeper.

The second goal (20:52) came from senior captain Audrey Sawers on a penalty corner, assisted by freshmen India Ralph and Filine Gerbrandij.

At 32:58, freshman midfielder Lineke Spaans sent an absolute rocket from the right side of the circle past Drexel's goalkeeper to give the Leopards their third goal.

Senior Audrey Sawers then added two more goals on the day to complete a hat trick. Her second goal was almost a mirror of her first and her final goal came from a long pass into the circle assisted by Molly McAndrew.

A third senior got in on the goal-scoring action, as midfielder Mary Gould was sent a rebounded ball and took a reverse shot that sailed right under the goalkeeper.

Alix Talkow book-ended the game with her second goal, coming as a rebound from a shot by freshman Mackenzie Hall.

It was an incredible show by the Leopards on both ends of the field, as the team took 30 shots and held Drexel to six. Lafayette also kept the advantage in corners (8-1).

Drexel's goalkeeper, Megan Hadfield, made 13 saves. Two Lafayette senior goalkeepers got on the field today; Hailey Abbott made three saves and Becca Harbert faced zero shots.

It will surely be a Senior Day to remember for the seven graduating Leopards as we wish them luck in all of their future endeavors.

Despite Saturday's loss to Penn State, the Leopards officially clinched a 2021 Patriot League Tournament berth!

Next, the Leopards travel to Lehigh on Friday at 7 p.m. for the Rivalry. #BeatLehigh!
