WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Lafayette College volleyball team fell to American in four sets (22-25, 25-18, 24-26, 21-25) in Washington D.C. on Saturday.
 
The Maroon and White were led by a trio of Leopards who recorded double digit kills with senior 
Leanna Deegan totaling 22, sophomore 
Gracie Gibson totaling 13 and senior 
Grace Tulevech recording 11. Sophomore 
Alyssa Vitale led the way in assists with 44, sophomore 
Katie Weston led the way in digs with 19, and Tulevech led the way in blocks with five.
 
Gibson's 11 kills is a career-high for the sophomore.
 
Lafayette (12-9, 9-4 PL) jumped out to a quick lead in the first set before American (15-11, 9-4 PL) came back to tie it up 5-5. The Leopards then retook the lead, 13-9, off a kill by Gibson before American started to close the gap.
 
The two squads went back and forth until, with the score 23-22 in favor of the Eagles, a two point run gave the home team the set one victory.
 
The second set proved to be the opposite for the Leopards as they held a 15-9 lead at the media timeout. The Leopards continued to hold the lead and eventually close out the set two victory to tie up the match off a kill and service ace by Deegan.
 
The Leopards jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead in the third set before the Eagles stormed back to tie up the set at 12-12. A kill and a service error by the Eagles tied up the set at 13-13 before Lafayette jumped back out to take the lead.
 
With the Leopards looking to close out the set with the score 24-22, American went on a 4-0 run to claim the third set and go up 2-1 in the match.
 
The Eagles then took the fourth set, 25-21, to take the match victory.
 
The Leopards will return to 
Kirby Sports Center to close out their regular season slate, hosting Lehigh, Bucknell and Navy, before turning their attention to the Patriot League Tournament.
