POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. The Lafayette fencing team recorded a total of four wins on Sunday at the Vassar Invitational held inside the Walker Field House.
The Lafayette men earned victories over Army West Point (15-12) and Denison (18-9), while the women recorded wins over Hunter (25-2) and Denison (22-5).
Leading the way in wins this weekend for the women was freshman Zoe O'Connor, with a record of 16-8 in epee. Also contributing in epee was senior Lily Manetta with a finish of 11-13 and senior Elise Hummel with a record of 5-19.
Sophomore Amanda Manubag led the way in sabre with a record of 15-6, followed closely by senior Carolyn Feigeles with a 14-7 finish, and Bella Moger with a record of 13-8, rounding out an overall strong performance in sabre for the Leopard women.
Junior Danielle Long led in foil with a record of 14-10, followed by sophomore Abby Schlotterbeck with 9-15, and freshman Anna Silver with a finish of 7-8.
The men had a trio of athletes who won more than half of their matches. Freshman Benito Hergert (foil) led the men with a finish of 17-7, freshmen Amir Whitehead (foil) finished 16-8 and freshman Antoine Mannes (epee) finished the day with a record of 15-9. Other competitors included Chris Davis, William Mcalpine, Matthew Decker, Grahame Ung, and Riley Anderson.
The Lafayette men will next be in action on Nov. 21 at a Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Association event at Hunter College.
