PHILADELPHIA – The University of Penn used its home-opener momentum to shoot it over 55% from the floor to knock off the Lafayette men's basketball team by an 85-57 final Tuesday night at the Palestra.
Junior
Neal Quinn was the Leopards' main option throughout the night, going for 14 points with six rebounds and four assists.
The Quakers proved they were happy to be back at home, jumping out to a 9-0 lead before the game's first media timeout. Sophomore
Jon Brantley came off the bench to quickly put an end to that, hitting a pair of 3-pointers before Quinn hit his second career triple to get the Leopards back into it.
Penn built its lead up to as much as 15 in the first 20 minutes, thanks to a 6-of-11 shooting performance from beyond the arc in the half.
Lafayette forced Penn into an early timeout in the second half, after scoring five-straight thanks to Quinn and senior
Tyrone Perry. Sophomore
Kyle Jenkins was productive, as well, reaching double figures for the third-consecutive game of the young season with 12.
Penn featured an even scoring attack with three Quakers in double figures led by Jonah Charles' 18, highlighted by four 3-pointers.
Brantley reached double figures for the first time in his career with 11 points off the bench while Perry had eight points with three boards.
Freshman
CJ Fulton made his first career start, running the point for the Leopards while classmates
Chris Rubayo and
Isaiah Thompson scored their first career points in the contest.
The road trip continues Friday night when the Leopards travel to Cameron Indoor Stadium to take on No. 7 Duke at 8 p.m. on the ACC Network.
