LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lafayette women's lacrosse team fought back from early deficit to pull within two at the halftime break at Bucknell on Saturday afternoon, but the Leopards scored just once in the second stanza, falling in their second contest of the 2021 season, 15-7.
Bucknell opened the game with six of the first seven goals to take a 6-1 lead after 10 minutes of action. Lafayette answered with six of the next eight, though, two off the stick of
Olivia Cunningham, to make it 8-6 at halftime.
The second half was all Bison, though, scoring seven straight goals to take a commanding 15-6 advantage.
Anna Stein's tally at the 6:18 mark was the lone tally of the second stanza for the Maroon and White.
Quinn Lacy and
Lexie Coldiron both spent time between the pipes on Saturday, with Lacy posting seven saves and allowing all 15 goals in 53:42 of action. Coldiron registered the final 6:18 of play, making four saves.
Offensively,
Meghan McLachlan led the way with two goals and an assist, accompanied by Cunningham's pair and a double from Stein. On the defensive side,
Mia Magarro,
Courtney Scheetz and
Kyra O'Driscoll each caused three turnovers on the afternoon.
The defeat drops Lafayette to 0-2 on the season, while Bucknell improves to 1-1, 1-0 in league action. The Leopards are back in action on March 27, hosting Colgate at 4 p.m.
