Women’s Soccer Scores Win over Colgate

Camryn Monfort had the game-winner in the Leopards’ 3-1 victory.

HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Senior Camryn Monfort had been a key provider with four assists last season, including her set up of Krista Kissell's  overtime golden goal against Colgate in their most recent meeting back in October 2019.

On Saturday, Monfort went from provider to scorer as she tallied the game-winner for the Leopards in their breakthrough 3-1 victory over Colgate University. Her 67th minute goal, assisted by fellow senior Clare Mengel for her first career point, was her second career goal to quickly answer after the Raiders had just equalized.

The Leopards (1-1-1) got on the board in the first half thanks to forward Melissa Lamanna. Much like she did against Holy Cross last weekend, the sophomore checked into the game in the 31st minute and made a quick impact by pouncing on a rebound for the team's lone goal in the 37th minute. It's the second time that the Markham, Ontario native has found the back of the net in her college career.

Colgate (1-3-0) struck early in the second half with a goal from senior forward Ellis Miller in the 55th minute.

Following the go ahead-tally from Monfort, sophomore defender Rory Schauder doubled the Leopards' lead by getting forward on a corner kick and knocking in the first goal of her career. Lafayette's third score of the day was assisted by junior forward Rebecca Schreiner.

Lafayette tallied nine shots, including five attempts on goal, in the win. Lamanna, Schreiner, and sophomore forward Sara Oswald led the team with two shots each.

The Leopards return home next Saturday, March 20 to host Boston University at 2 p.m.
