Drexel Downs Men's Lacrosse in Rainy Philadelphia

Leopards can't find stops in midweek defeat

PHILADELPHIA - The Lafayette men's lacrosse team couldn't find an answer for the Drexel offense on Wednesday evening in Philadelphia as the Leopards fell by a 24-8 score in non-league play.

The Leopards scored the game's first two goals off the sticks of freshmen John Mathes and Kalman Kraham, but Drexel answered with five straight and 12 of the next 13 to open the game up early, leading 12-3 with 4:01 left in the second. Mathes' second of the day stopped the run and the game moved to halftime at 14-4, but Drexel scored six of the first seven goals in the third to put it away.

Lafayette didn't stop working though, putting together back-to-back tallies at the end of the third quarter from Cole Dutton and Peter Lehman. Ryan Duncan added his first score of the season in the fourth as well before the clock sounded on a 24-8 final.

Lehman led the Maroon and White offensively with two goals and an assist for three points, while Mathes, Dutton and Kraham all tallied multi-point efforts. Ryan Ness and Will Moran split time in net, making four saves apiece, each with a half of play.

Drexel led overall in shots, 49-34, and forced the Leopards into 27 turnovers, but Lafayette the edge at the faceoff X, winning 18-of-35 on the night. James Turco was successful in 14 of his 23 opportunities.

The Leopards return to Patriot League action for the remainder of the season, beginning on Saturday, hosting Boston U. at noon at Fisher Stadium.
