Box Score 2 LEWISBURG, Pa.— The Lafayette softball team dropped its first Patriot League contests of the season, as Bucknell swept the Leopards in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Becker Field.
In game one, the Leopards put up five runs in the top of the fifth inning to overcome a four-run deficit and take a 7-6 lead on the Bison.
Freshman right fielder
Paige Sandidge started the rally by hitting a two-run home run to center field to cut the Bison's lead to two. Then, sophomore catcher
Grace Harvey followed with a RBI single to bring home pinch runner
Erica Brasher, who ran for
Bailey Langford after Langford singled in the inning.
In the next at-bat,
Paige Grover delivered a two-run double to left field to score
Natasha Miner, who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning, and Harvey to give the Leopards the lead.
The Bison scored a run in the bottom half of the inning and three more in the sixth inning to take the lead and eventually the 10-7 win.
In game two, the Maroon and White slipped into a 5-0 hole after allowing a run in the third inning and four runs in the fourth. The Leopards cut the deficit to 5-3 in the sixth on a three-run shot from Grover, but they gave up two runs in the bottom half to end the game with a 7-3 final.
Grover led the Leopards at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a homer, double and four RBI in game one and 2-for-3 with her homer and three RBI in the second game.
Sandidge had a solid game for the Leopards in the opener, going 2-for-3. Miner,
Julia Romano,
Morgan Olynyk,
Julia Roman, and
Kinzi Van Wyk each had a hit in game one. Miner had two hits in game two, while Olynyk and Harvey added one hit apiece in the nightcap.
The teams will close out the home-and-home series on Sunday in Easton with a doubleheader at Metzgar Fields at 1 p.m.
