DOWNINGTOWN, Pa. -- Lafayette College women's soccer opened its season with a 0-0 draw against Bucknell in a home match played at the United Sports complex.
The Leopards tallied 24 shots and forced 13 saves compared to just six shots in total from the Bison, but it wasn't enough to break the deadlock. Senior midfielder
Sophie Saldivar led the team with eight shots, including five on target, while forwards
Sara Oswald and
Krista Kissell each took four shots.
Lafayette nearly had a breakthrough in the first half, when a shot from outside the box from sophomore forward
Melissa Lamanna hit the crossbar. Bucknell had its best chance of the match early in the second half, forcing a block on the goal line in the 49th minute.
The Leopards had one last flurry in the waning minutes of overtime. Kissell and Saldivar eached forced Bison goalkeeper Jenna Hall to make point blank saves, keeping the game tied at the final whistle.
Lafayette returns to action at noon on Saturday in a road match with Holy Cross.
