Baseball Defeats Lehigh Wednesday

Starting pitcher sophomore Jordan Yoder went a struck out a season-high eight batters

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lafayette baseball team defeated Lehigh, 3-2, on Wednesday.  

The Leopards were led by freshman Justin Grech and sophomore Seif Ingram who each totaled one hit and one RBI. Junior Justin Johnson and senior Colin Hartey each totaled two hits in the win.

Starting pitcher sophomore Jordan Yoder went season-high 7.0 innings, striking out a season-high eight batters and earning his third win of the season. Sophomore Nolan Morr came in for 2.0 innings of relief earning his third save of the season.

Lehigh (12-9, 9-4 PL) stuck first in the bottom of the fifth, off a bases loaded single, to take a 1-0 lead.

Lafayette (7-11, 6-9 PL) responded in the top of the seventh, after junior Zach Savage started off the inning with a single to right center. Freshman Blaze Fadio then doubled to right center, advancing to third on the throw and bringing home Savage to tie the game up 1-1.  

Grech then single to center field to bring home Fadio and put the Leopards up 2-1.

The Maroon and White added one more run in the top of the eighth, to make it 3-1 heading into the final inning and a half.

The Mountain Hawks hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth to bring the score within one, but Morr was close out the bottom of the ninth and secure the win for the Leopards.

Up next for Lafayette is a three-game weekend series with Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. Game one of the series is set for Saturday, April 17 and games two and three are set for a doubleheader on Sunday, April 18.  First pitch on Saturday is slated for 3 p.m. and first pitch of the doubleheader on Sunday is slated for 12 p.m.
