Men's Soccer to Face American in PL Championship

Leopards are in search of the program's 8th championship title

 *The Leopards enter Saturday's Patriot League Championship game with a perfect undefeated 7-0 overall record and a 4-0 record in the North Division. They are coming off a 2-1 tournament semifinal victory over Holy Cross. Senior Andrew Venezia netted the first goal, his first collegiate goal, for the Leopards in the 20th minute and then it was junior Max Ippolito who netted his second goal of the season, and the eventual game-winner, in the 72nd minute. 

*Saturday's game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and is slated for a 3 p.m. kickoff. 

*Lafayette is heading back to the Patriot League Championship game after falling to Lehigh, 0-1, in the 2019 title game. The squad searching for its eighth Patriot League Championship title. Their last one came in 2012 when they beat American, 2-0, in Washington, D.C.   

*A win on Saturday will tie them with Colgate for the most Patriot League Championship titles in the Patriot League. 

*Sophomore Hale Lombard leads the Leopards in points (7), goals (3) and shots (19). Sophomore Benji Grossi leads the team in assists (4). Junior Marcos Kitromilides and sophomore David Mizrahi are tied for the team lead in shots on goal (8) and senior Martin Ssessanga leads the team in game winning goals (2). 

*Lafayette heads into Saturday's game ranked 24th in the nation in the United Soccer Coaches poll, marking the first time in the Bohn era that they are ranked. As a team, they ranked 32nd in the nation in goal differential (9), 26th in points per game (5.86), 17th in scoring offense (2.14), 29th in shots on goal per game (6.29), 42nd in team goals against average (0.857) and tied for 1st in the nation in won-lost-tied percentage (1.000). 

*Individually, Grossi is 23rd in the nation in assists per game (0.57), Ssessanga is 39th in game-winning goals (2), junior Alex Sutton is 44th in goals against average (0.857) and Mizrahi is 35th in shot accuracy (0.571). 

*As a team in the Patriot League, the Leopards lead the league in goal differential (9), points per game (5.86), scoring offense (2.14), and shots on goal per game (6.29), total goals (15), total points (41) and won-lost-tied percentage (1.000). They are second in the league in shot accuracy (0.468), team goals against average (0.857) and total assists (11), and are third in the league in assists per game (1.57), corner kicks per game (5.29) and shutout percentage (0.286). 

*Individually in the Patriot League, Grossi is second in the league in assists per game (0.57) and is tied for first in total assists (4). Ssessanga is tied for first in game-winning goals (2), Sutton is first in goalie minutes played (630:00) and third in goals against average (0.857) and Mizrahi is second in shot accuracy (0.571). 

*American enters Saturday's championship game with a 3-1-2 overall record and ended the shortened regular season with a 2-1-1 South Division record. The Eagles are coming off a big 3-2 win over No.1 Loyola on Wednesday night to win the South Division and advance to Saturday's championship game. 

*The Eagles are playing in their first Patriot League Championship since 2016 and are looking for their first Patriot League title and NCAA Tournament appearance since 2004. 

*They are led by junior David Coly who is totaling a team-leading points (8), goals (4), shots (13) and shots on goal (7). He is also tied with senior Kyle Hellman and freshman Jason Bouregy in game winning goals (1).  Bouregy and junior Viggo Sjoberg both lead the Eagles in assists (2). Between the pipes, senior Jake Agnew and freshman Lorenzo Gordon have been splitting the time with Agnew starting the first half and Gordon taking over to finish out the game. Agnew holds a 0.93 goals against average while Gordon is holding a 1.22. Both have made 10 saves, appearing in all six games for the Eagles. 

*American leads the all-time series 14-3-6 and has won the last five meetings. The last meeting between these two squads was on October 19, 2019 and saw American walking away with the 2-1 victory in Easton. 

*The Leopards and Eagles have meet three other times during Patriot League tournament play, including twice in the championship game. The Leopard won both title games, the first in 2005 by a 1-0 final and then in 2012 by a 2-0 final, both in Washington, D.C.  The only time the Eagles have beaten in the Leopards in postseason action was in 2004, 1-0, in a semifinal matchup.
