WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Lafayette baseball team split its Sunday doubleheader with Army, winning the first game 4-2 and dropping the second game 5-6.
With the Sunday's series split, the Leopards and Black Knights also split the four game series.
Lafayette was led in game one by sophomore
Pete Ciuffreda who went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs. Senior Mike Landry also went 2-for-3 while junior
Dylan Minghini went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run.
Starting pitcher junior
Kyle Subers threw a complete game, going all 7.0 innings and striking out a career-high nine.
In game two, the Leopards were led by junior
Justin Johnson who went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run. Senior
Colin Hartey went 1-for-3 with two runs and freshman starting pitcher
Adam Bogosian went 3.0 innings in his fifth collegiate appearance.
Lafayette (11-14, 10-12, PL) got on the board first in game one, in the top of the third off a three-run home run by Minghini and then win the score 3-2 heading into the top of the seventh, it was Ciuffreda who sent a solo shot over the right field fence to push the Leopards lead out to 4-2.
Army (17-16, 11-7 PL) couldn't add any more runs of its own in the bottom of the seventh as Lafayette earned the 4-2 victory.
The Black Knights jumped on the board first in the second game of the day, putting a run across the plate in the first inning and the second inning to make it 2-0 before the Leopards took the lead in the bottom of the third inning.
Hartey led off with a single and then junior
Hunter Silvernail was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second for the Leopards. Landry was then hit by a pitch to load the bases and Johnson singled to right center, bringing home Silvernail and Hartey to tie the game up at 2-2.
Stern drew a walk to once again load the bases and then Minghini reached first on an error by the Black Knights, but it was enough to bring home Johnson and Landry to put the Leopards up by two.
Army added four runs in the bottom of the fourth and Lafayette added one more in the ninth to bring the final to 6-5 in favor of the Black Knights.
Up next for the Leopards is a midweek game on Wednesday against St. Joseph's in Philadelphia. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
