Men's Soccer Beats Army to Remain Undefeated

Leopards improve to 5-0

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Lafayette College men's soccer team defeated Army, 2-1, in West Point on Saturday night to win its fifth-straight and remain undefeated this spring.

The Leopards were led by sophomore Hale Lombard who netted his second goal of the season. Junior Marcos Kitromilides totaled a team-high three shots and freshman Carter Houlihan fired off two.

Junior goalkeeper Alex Sutton made three saves over 90 minutes of action, allowing only one goal.

Lombard got the Leopards (5-0 PL) on the board first, in the second minute of the game, to make it 1-0. The goal marked his second of the season and the sixth of his collegiate career.

Despite Army (2-2, 0-2 PL) outshooting Lafayette 6-4 in the first half, the Leopards were able to hold the Black Knights scoreless and head into the half with the 1-0 lead.

Lafayette took a 2-0 lead in the 59th minute off an own goal by the Black Knights. Army then netted one of its own in the 86th minute to cut the Leopards lead in half but Lafayette was able to hang on and walk away with the 2-1 victory.

The last time the program recorded five-straight victories was during the 2008 season.

Up next for the Leopards is a Friday night battle with crosstown rival Lehigh at 7 p.m to wrap-up regular season action. The game will be the Leopards senior night where they will be honoring senior Kyle Robbins for his four years of hard work and dedication to the program.
