BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lafayette baseball team dropped a close 10 inning game on Wednesday afternoon to crosstown rival Lehigh, 6-7.
Lafayette was led by junior
Dylan Minghini who recorded three hits and one RBI and sophomore
Pete Ciuffreda who recorded a hit, a run and a team-high three RBIs.Â
Making his first collegiate start, starting pitcher freshman
Adam Bogosian went 3.2 innings and recorded his first collegiate strikeout.
Lehigh (10-7, 7-2 PL) went up 1-0 in the first inning. Lafayette (4-9, 3-7 PL) had a chance in the second after Minghini doubled with one out to put the Leopards first baserunner of the game on base, but the Leopards bats couldn't get him across the plate to send the game to the third with Lehigh still up by one.Â
The Leopards had a big third inning with freshman
Justin Grech starting things off by reaching first on an error by the Mountain Hawks. Both senior
Ethan Stern and junior
Justin Johnson also reached base on errors, loading the bases.
Ciuffreda then singled to clear the bases giving the Leopards the 3-1 lead.Â
Minghini followed up Ciuffreda's single with a single of his own to make it 4-1 Leopards heading into the fourth inning.Â
Lehigh took a 6-4 lead in the sixth.Â
The ninth inning was another big inning for the Leopards, with sophomore
Kyle Chmielewski getting on base with a single to left field. Grech then singled up the middle putting runners on first and second for senior
Ethan Stern.

With two outs Stern doubled to bring home both Grech and Chmeiewski, tying-up the game at six runs each and sending the game into extra innings.Â

The Mountain Hawks had the final say on Wednesday afternoon, winning the game on a walk-off single in the bottom of the inning, 7-6.
Wednesday games marked the second- consecutive game that the Leopards have played an extra-inning game.Â

Up next for Lafayette is a four-game weekend series with Navy. Games one and two are set to take place in Easton on Saturday and games three and four are slated to take place in Annapolis on Sunday.
