BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Freshman Peter Lehman of the Lafayette men's lacrosse team was selected as the Patriot League Rookie of the Year, the league office announced on Tuesday morning.
 
Leading the Maroon and White in scoring with 20 goals in his freshman campaign, Lehman started every outing for the Maroon and White, adding four assists for 24 points on the year. He picked up 16 ground balls and caused three turnovers in his inaugural campaign.
 
"Pete earned this honor from the moment he stepped on campus and I'm so proud of him for this accomplishment," third-year head coach Patrick Myers said. "For a young man to miss his senior year and not have fall ball, and come into a very competitive situation and shine the way he did is truly a credit to his attitude, effort and overall coachability. His traits represent our freshmen class as a whole, who attacked the 2021 season after a virtual fall. Pete's honor serves as recognition of both him and his classmates for their efforts and is a credit to the sacrifices they have made for their teammates and our program."
 
Lehman, a Warminster, Pa. native, is the second Rookie of the Year in program history for Lafayette, joining Tom Perini, who won the same award in 2008. His addition marks the seventh major award for the Maroon and White in the Patriot League era.
 
While the results are still on the way for Lafayette men's lacrosse, the Leopards ended the year with momentum, battling three top-20 programs to tight contests to close out the season. The Maroon and White finished within four goals or less of No. 7/8 Lehigh (L, 14-11), No. 19 Loyola (L, 11-7) and No. 12/13 Navy (L, 14-10) to finish up the 2021 campaign and will look to carry that progress into 2022.
