Women’s Soccer Falls to Seton Hall in Opener

Leopards host LIU on Sunday at 2 p.m.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- Lafayette women's soccer opened its season with a 1-0 loss against Seton Hall in a road match played at Owen T. Carroll Field.

The Leopards battled the Pirates to a scoreless draw for the first 79 minutes of the match, but in the 80th minute a late score from Seton Hall was the difference maker.

Junior goalie Natalie Neumann replaced sophomore Lindsay Dewar at halftime and excelled between the posts, making four saves on the 12 shots she faced in the second 45 minutes of play. Naomi Welch's shot at 80:54 slipped through for the game winner.

After she was denied on the doorstep of the goal by Neumann, Welch got a pass from Natalie Tavana and this time she connected.

Seton Hall led Lafayette in shots 21-6 and 8-4 in shots on goal. Freshman Gretchen Waechter and junior Sara Oswald together accounted for four of Lafayette's six shots. All four were on goal. Freshman Anna Garcia and junior Haley Pursel added a shot apiece.

Next up for the Leopards is the home opener at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium against LIU.
