EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College men's soccer team defeated Drexel, 2-1, on a last-second penalty kick, on Monday night at Oaks Stadium.
The Leopards were led by senior
Marcos Kitromilides who netted both of the Leopards goals in the win. His first goal came in the 48
th minute of action and his second, the game winner, game in the 90
th minute of the game off a penalty kick. He totaled three shots on the night, with the two on target finding the back of the net. Senior
Andrew Venezia recorded his first assist of the season, assisting on Kitromilidies' first goal of the game.
Junior
Hale Lombard totaled three shots on goal while junior
Yiannis Panayides totaled two shots, with one on goal.
Drexel (0-2, 0-0 CAA) held control for the majority of the first half of the game, outshooting Lafayette (1-1, 0-0 PL) 6-4 through the first 45 minutes of action.
The second half proved to be the turning point for the Maroon and White as three minutes into the second half, Kitromilides found the back of the net, off the assist from Venezia, to net the game's first goal.
With 24 seconds left in regulation, the Dragons evened the score at 1-1, making it look as if the game was heading into overtime.
As the clock winded down, with one second remaining in the game and the Leopards on the move near the Dragons goalkeeper, the Dragons goalkeeper came out of the goal to make a play and collided with a Leopard player.
Drexels goalkeeper was issued a red card, giving the Leopards a penalty shot and setting up a chance to walk away with the victory. Kitromilides headed to the line, sending the ball passed Drexel's goalkeeper to give the Leopards the 2-1 victory.
The Leopards remain at home for their next game as they are set to welcome Mount St. Mary's to Oaks on September 3 at 7 p.m.
