ALBANY, N.Y. – The Lafayette College men's soccer team dropped its game Friday night to the University at Albany by a 0-1 final.
The Leopards were led by junior
Hale Lombard who totaled a team-leading four shots, with one on goal. Senior
Andrew Venezia totaled two shots, with one on goal, while senior
Will Echeverria and freshman
Jack Borden also each recorded a shot.
Lafayette (2-3, 0-0 PL) had its first chance of the game to find the back of the net in the seventh minute off a shot by Echeverria. The Maroon and White kept firing the ball towards UAlbany's (4-1, 0-0 American East) goal, ending the first half outshooting the Great Danes 5-3. Neither side could find the back of the net to send the game into halftime 0-0.
Venezia had a chance to put the Leopards on the board in the opening minutes of the second half but his shot went just to the left. Nine minutes later Lombard took his chance and fired one just left of the goal as well, keeping the score at tied at zero.
The two sides went back and forth, both playing solid defense until with 00:05 seconds left in regulation, it was UAlbany who found the back of the net to give themselves the 1-0 victory.
The Leopards return home next week for two games at Oaks. They are slated to take on St. Francis on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and then will open up Patriot League action on Saturday, welcoming Bucknell at 5 p.m.
