HAMDEN, Conn.-Â A total offensive effort propelled Lafayette to a 2-0 shutout against Quinnipiac on Sunday afternoon in Hamden, Connecticut. The Leopards improve to an incredible 5-1 overall with the victory, while the Bobcats drop to 0-4 on the season.
The Leopards were able to show off their impressive teamwork, creating plays throughout the midfield and on penalty corner opportunities. The team had excellent movement on the field today.
Senior captain
Molly McAndrew broke the ice for Lafayette 5:14 into the game with a rebound into the cage to beat Quinnipiac goalkeeper Nina Santore. The goal was set up following a penalty corner when fellow classmate and captain
Audrey Sawers took a sweep on goal. McAndrew's tally is her fifth of the season.
The Leopards added another goal immediately at the start of the second quarter (15:25) after freshman inserter
India Ralph collected a pass from Sawers and deposited the ball in the cage during a penalty corner.
The Maroon and White controlled the play for almost all of the game, only surrendering three shots and two corners. Lafayette registered 17 shots and 11 corners total.
Hailey Abbott started the game in goal and did not face any shots in her 60 minutes of action for her third shutout in 2021. Santore made 5 saves in the contest for Quinnipiac.
Lafayette returns to action with the first Patriot League contest of the season, traveling to American on Sept. 18.
