EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College men's soccer team battled to a 0-0 double overtime draw against Bucknell on Saturday afternoon at Oaks Stadium to open up Patriot League play.
The Leopards were led by senior
Marcos Kitromilides who totaled a team-high five shots. Junior
Yiannis Panayides totaled three shots and a team-high two on goal.
Senior
Alex Sutton recorded three saves and his 18
th career shutout.
The Leopards (3-3-1, 0-0-1 PL) started off strong, with Panayides firing off back-to-back shots. Bucknell (2-4-1, 0-0-1 PL) had its first chance of the game in the 10
th minute of action off of a corner but weren't able to find the back of the net, keeping the game at 0-0.
Both sides continued to fire off shots but neither could find the back of the net through 90 minutes of regulation, sending the game into overtime. Saturday's game marked the first overtime game for the Leopards this season.
Lafayette had two chances in overtime to break the 0-0 game, one in the first 10 minutes of overtime and one in the second 10 minutes of overtime. Neither shot could get passed the Bison's goalkeeper.
The Leopards held the shot advantage in the game, outshooting the Bison 15-6.
Up next for the Maroon and White is a trip to Jersey City to take on St. Peter's on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
