Boston, Ma. - The Lafayette women's soccer team dropped its first match in conference play to Boston University 2-1 on Saturday at Nickerson Field.
The Leopards scored quickly in the 12th minute as Lafayette junior Melissa Lamanna lofted a ball off a pass from Katie Butler, which landed just behind the Boston U goalkeeper.
The Terriers of Boston University scored twice in the final 12 minutes of regulation. Both tallies were by Amy Thompson. The first was off a rebound from a save by Lafayette junior goalkeeper Natalie Neumann, and the second was a long straightaway strike from just outside the penalty box that skirted past Neumann.
Lafayette recorded eight shots and Boston U had 15. The Leopards took three shots on goal and the Terriers had five. Gretchen Waechter had three shots and Riley Dowd had two. Melissa Lamanna, Haley Pursel and Sara Oswald all recorded one shot each.
Lafayette junior goalkeeper Natalie Neumann was credited with three saves.
The Leopards will return home on Wednesday to face arch rival Lehigh University at 7 p.m. at Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
