COLUMBUS, Ohio.- The offenses proved too tough for both the Ohio State and Lafayette field hockey teams on Friday afternoon as both teams scored 3 goals in 60 minutes of regulation before the Buckeyes knocked off the Leopards in the second overtime period. Lafayette drops to 2-1 this season with the defeat, while Ohio State improves to 2-1.
 
Ohio State had the advantage in both corners (8-3) and shots (23-11), but that didn't stop Lafayette from scoring the first two goals of the game. Audrey Sawers was assisted by Molly McAndrew in just under a minute into the second period (15:23), while Felicitas Hannes tallied her own an unassisted goal at 23:40.
 
The Buckeyes struck back with two unanswered goals in the third period. Both teams managed to sneak past their opponent's defensive unit in the fourth quarter, with McAndrew scoring for Lafayette (48:58) and Goldean scoring for Ohio State (43:09).
 
The first overtime period saw both teams hungry to win, with the game staying tied 3-3; however, Lafayette's McAndrew did score a goal that was called back after a few minutes of debate. The Buckeyes were finally able to overpower the Maroon and White in the second overtime period, ending the game at 74:53.
 
Hailey Abbott put together a stellar showing in the cage, making six saves in her 70+ minutes of action. On the other side, Aaliyah Hernandez had four saves in the win.
 
The Leopards will remain in Columbus, Ohio this weekend, where they will face Indiana on Sunday at 11 a.m. on Buckeye Varsity Field. The Hoosiers are currently 3-0, coming off of a 1-0 win against Miami (OH) today.
