COLUMBUS, Ohio.- The Lafayette field hockey team got its third victory of the year, downing Indiana by a score of 4-0 in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday. The Leopards netted one goal per quarter to cement their victory on Buckeye Varsity Field this morning.
Captain
Molly McAndrew found the backboard early in the third minute of the contest, assisted by Ralph and Sawers. Midfielder
Audrey Sawers got in on the act just 13 minutes later, doubling Lafayette's lead (16:53). She was assisted by both Ralph and Gerbrandij for the penalty corner shot.
After coming out of the halftime break, the Maroon and White wasted little time adding onto their lead once again. With a quick unassisted goal, Sawers put the game firmly out of reach off of a reverse shot (35:04).
Indiana's chances were few and far between this morning as the Leopards played a stout defense.
Hailey Abbott faced seven total shots, but none were able to make it past her or the strong defensive unit. The senior goalkeeper made two saves in today's shutout, while her Indiana counterpart, Loveridge, made four.
At 52:57,
Felicitas Hannes deflected another corner shot from Sawers into the goal to make it a 4-0 game. Lafayette outshot Indiana for an overall advantage of 17-7 and held a slight edge in corner opportunities, 9-6.
The Leopards are back in action this Friday, Sept. 10, as they return home to host Yale in a 7 p.m. contest.
