EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette women's soccer team was narrowly defeated by Hartford 2-1 in overtime on Sunday at Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
The Leopards struck first in the 58th minute, when a long break-away pass up field by senior Sophie Hudson connected with junior
Melissa Lamanna who made a move on the Hartford goalkeeper and gave the Leopards the first score of the match.
In the 88th minute, Hartford would equalize the score when a foul on Lafayette in the box would lead to a penalty shot by Imani Jenkins that she put past Lafayette sophomore goalkeeper
Lindsay Dewar.
Neither team could create another opportunity in regulation, but it would only take 9 seconds after the opening touch of the overtime period for Imani Jenkins to evade every defender and score the game winner.
Lafayette and Hartford both recorded six shots, four of them on goal for each team. For the Leopards,
Melissa Lamanna and
Gretchen Waechter had two shots each with one of Lamanna's resulting in a goal.
Katie Butler and
Emily Coe recorded one shot a piece.
Lindsay Dewar was credited with two saves.
Next time out, the Leopards will travel to Jersey City, N.J. to take on Saint Peters at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
