EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College volleyball team took care of NJIT in straight sets (25-11, 25-23, 25-22) Tuesday night at
Kirby Sports Center to open its home schedule.

Senior
Leanna Deegan hit a red-hot .457 with 24 kills and five digs. It marks her third-straight match with 20-plus kills.

The Leopards featured an even attack, hitting at a .376 clip as a unit. Senior
Madi Wahrmund went 7-1-10 to hit .600. Freshman
Phoebe Glass also had seven putaways while sophomore
Gracie Gibson went 6-0-7 to hit .857.

Alyssa Vitale had 35 assists and two kills while classmate
Katie Weston had 10 digs.

It was a fast start for Lafayette, running off a 7-0 run in the early going to take control of the first set. The Maroon and White hit .625 in the opening frame to take the set, 25-11.

NJIT showed signs of life in the second and jumped out to a 15-11 lead at the media timeout. The Leopards were able to rattle off four-straight points to tie the set. NJIT responded with a 6-3 run of its own to make it 21-18 before Lafayette battled back to take a two-set advantage.

Again, the Leopards were able to get out to an early advantage as Deegan had four kills on the set's first four points. Lafayette extended its lead to 11-4 before NJIT battled back to get within two at 24-22 before the Leopards pulled it out.

Lafayette travels to Sacred Heart this upcoming weekend for the Sacred Heart Invitational, taking on the hosts Friday evening before battling with Fairfield and UC Irvine Saturday.
