EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College women's basketball team dropped a close game, 49-47, to Colgate on Saturday afternoon in
Kirby Sports Center to move to 3-3 in Patriot League play.

Lafayette was led by freshman
Claire Gallagher who totaled 12 points, followed by sophomore
Makayla Andrews who recorded 10. Senior
Naomi Ganpo led the way for the Leopards in rebounds with seven. Senior
Nicole Johnson totaled a team-high four steals while junior
Jessica Booth led the team in assists with three.

Makaila Wilson put in the first bucket for the Lafayette (7-9, 3-3 PL) to put them up 2-0 before Colgate (3-16, 1-7 PL) responded with a 10-0 run to take the lead. Gallagher was able to break the Raiders scoring run with a shot from beyond the arc to cut Colgate's lead in half with 5:56 left in the first quarter. Â

Wilson followed up Gallagher's bucket with a bucket of her own to pull Lafayette within three, putting the score at 10-7 in favor of Colgate. Junior
Jessica Booth drained a shot to pull Lafayette within one, 10-9, and then Colgate responded with a layup to put themselves back out in front 12-9.

Gallagher drained back-to-back baskets to put Lafayette back in front 13-12 and then freshman
Abby Antognoli added a jumper to put Lafayette ahead by three, 15-12. Gallagher then put in another shot from beyond the arc to send the game into the second quarter with the Leopards in the lead 18-12.

Colgate started off the 10 minutes of action drawing a foul and making one of its extra shots to start to chip away at the Leopards' lead. The Raiders put in another bucket to put the score at 18-14 before Antogonli put in a three-pointer to pull Lafayette ahead by six. The Raiders responded with a three-pointer of their own to put the score at 21-18.

With the score tied at 23-23 with 31 seconds left to go in the half, Andrews put in a basket to send the game into halftime with Lafayette up by 25-23.

The Raiders opened up the second half with a 6-0 run before it was Andrews who broke through Colgate's defense to pull Lafayette back within two, 29-27. The Raiders then went on a 5-0 run before it was Ganpo who broke the Raider's run with a bucket to put the score at 34-27 in favor of the visitors.

Wilson put in a layup to pull Lafayette within five but, the game headed into the final 10 minutes of action with Colgate up 38-33.

The vistors pulled away in the fourth quarter to put the score at 46-39 with 3:51 left to play. Lafayette started to mount a comeback with Andrews and Antognoli putting in back-to-back buckets to bring the score to 46-43 still in favor of Colgate. Â

Colgate drew a foul and made on its shots from the charity stripe to put itself ahead by four before Gallagher drained another three-pointer to pull Lafayette back within two.

Booth drew a foul with five seconds left in the game and made both of her extra shots to tie the game up at 47-47. The Raiders had the final say as they put in a layup as time expired to take the 49-47 win back to Hamilton.

Colgate's Sophia Diehl led all players with a game-high 13 points and Taisia McMillian led all players with a game-high 11 rebounds. The Raiders win was their first Patriot League win of the season.

Lafayette hits the road for its next two games, traveling to Boston U. on Wednesday and Army on Saturday.
