WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Lafayette women's soccer team fell to Army 1-0 on Wednesday at Malek Stadium at Clinton Field.
In the 37th minute, Army scored the game's lone goal when Dara Murray triggered a set piece from the near side corner sending the ball into the box, just a few yards in front of the goal, where it pinballed off of a Leopard and a Black Knight and then was finally chipped into the goal by Emma Richey, giving the Black Knights a 1-0 lead with eight minutes left to play in the first half.
It took until the second half for Lafayette to record its first shot, when junior
Lauren Cunningham took a shot in the 59th minute. Senior
Sara Oswald followed with a shot in the 65th minute. Â Â
Army outpaced the Maroon and White in shots, totaling 21 shots versus two for the Leopards. The Black Knights also had more shots on goal than the Leopards, with six to Lafayette's none. Cunningham and Oswald each took a shot for the Leopards.
Neumann started the match for Lafayette and played the first 45 minutes, recording three saves. Lafayette junior goalkeeperÂ
Lindsay Dewar replaced Neumann for the second half of the match and was credited with Two saves. Her Army counterpart, Sage Strohman, played the full 90 minutes.
The Leopards will be on the road again on Saturday when they travel to Worcester, Mass. to battle the Crusaders of Holy Cross at 1 p.m.
