WORCESTER, Mass. – The Lafayette women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Holy Cross on Saturday at Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium.
Holy Cross struck early in the 10th minute when Claire Carew chipped a pass back to Melanie Lytle who rocketed a straight on shot from just inside the box, past diving Lafayette senior goalkeeper
Natalie Neumann, to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead. Carew was credited with an assist on the goal.
In the second half, the Leopards out-shot the Crusaders 11-1. Lafayette had five shots on goal in the second part of the match, but they were not able to cash in on any of those opportunities. Holy Cross goalkeeper, Izzy Castagnetti, stepped up to make saves on each attempt.
Lafayette finished the afternoon with a total of 18 shots, seven of which were on goal. Holy Cross had eight shots, with three on goal. Freshman

Neumann started the match for Lafayette and played the first 45 minutes, recording two saves. Lafayette junior goalkeeper
Lindsay Dewar replaced Neumann for the second half of the match. Their Holy Cross counterpart, Castagnetti, played the full 90 minutes and recorded seven saves.
On Saturday the Leopards travel to Hamilton, NY. to face the Raiders of Colgate University in a match at 4 p.m.
