Leopards Earn Hard-Fought Draw at Colgate

April McDonald scores her third goal of the season

HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Lafayette women's soccer team battled Colgate to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon at Beyer-Small Field.

In just the third minute, Lafayette's freshman April McDonald  broke away from the Colgate defense and sent a shot into the net past Raiders goalie Grace Poncsak, giving the Leopards a 1-0 lead. The goal was McDonald's third of the season.

Colgate struck back to even the match in the 76th minute. Ally Giovino received a pass from Ari Bezanson, juked around her defender and sent a shot past the outstretched arms of Lafayette junior goalkeeper Lindsay Dewar, knotting the score 1-1.

Lafayette finished the contest with five shots, two of which were on goal. Colgate had 18 shots with eight on goal. Senior Sara Oswald led the Leopards with two shots, one of which was on goal.  Freshman Katrina Santelli, senior Haley Pursel and McDonald had one apiece.
