Leopards Complete Season Sweep of Lehigh

Lafayette makes it six-straight wins over its rival

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lafayette volleyball team made its six straight wins over rival Lehigh Sunday afternoon in four sets (25-21, 23-25, 25-22, 25-15) inside Grace Hall.

The duo of senior Mataya Megson and freshman Carol Ulichney tied for the match high with 11 kills each, while Megson hit .333 with a rejection.

It was a close at the first media timeout with Lehigh holding a 15-14 advantage. However, Lafayette would use a 5-2 scoring run over the next seven points to take the momentum.

The home team would bounce back to take the second set before Lafayette jumped out to a 14-10 lead in the third to force a timeout. Lehigh would battle back to tie the set at 16 and eventually take a 17-16 lead.

The Leopards would respond with a 4-0 outburst with sophomore Carson Grace Toomer at the service line. Lehigh would get back within one at 23-22 to force a Lafayette timeout before sophomore Abby Nieporte's kill followed by an ace to close the frame.

It was all Maroon and White in the fourth and final set as Lafayette scored the first eight points of the frame with junior Katie Weston serving. She tallied four aces during the run, including three straight.

Weston had a career-best seven service aces to go along with 22 digs while junior Gracie Gibson tallied nine kills with three blocks.

Lafayette heads north next weekend to take on Colgate on Friday at 6 p.m. before taking on Army Saturday at 4 p.m.
