WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Lafayette men's soccer team defeated American 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in Patriot League play. The victory propelled the Leopards from sixth to third place in the Patriot League. The top six teams will qualify for the Patriot League Tournament.
The Leopards struck first in the 27th minute of the contest. Senior forward
Marcos Kitromilides laid the ball off to senior midfielder
Yiannis Panayides who launched a shot into the top left corner of the goal.
In the 73
rd minute, Kitromilides found the back of the net off of an assist from sophomore midfielder
Jack Borden. Kitromilides has eight goals on the season.
American midfielder Mattias Cooper put a penalty kick into the back of the net in the 84
th minute of the contest.
Lafayette out-shot American nine to five with five shots on goal.
Senior goalkeeper
Alex Sutton made one save and allowed one goal. American goalkeeper Matthew Tibbetts made three saves and allowed two goals.
Lafayette travels to Army for their final regular season game on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
