Women’s Soccer Falls to Bucknell

Leopards Travel to Army on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette women's soccer team was defeated by Bucknell University 2-0 on Friday at Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.

The Bison struck quickly in the ninth minute when Teresa Deda sent the ball into the box where Rylee Donaldson headed the ball perfectly to Abby Gearhart, who sent a right-footed shot past Lafayette senior goalkeeper Natalie Neumann, giving the Bison a 1-0 lead.

In the 89th minute, Lafayette had its best opportunity to score.  A deflection allowed sophomore Gretchen Waechter to get to the doorstep of the goal, but her shot was denied by Bucknell goalkeeper Jenna Hall.

With just two seconds left in the match, Bucknell added to its lead with a long pass by Deda that led to a breakaway for Donaldson who ripped a shot past junior goalkeeper Lindsay Dewar, giving the Bison a 2-0 lead.

Lafayette ended the evening with four shots, with three on goal. Bucknell had 14 shots, of which six were on goal. Lafayette sophomore Michaela Salvati had two shots, while Waechter and freshman Katrina Santelli had one shot each.

Neumann started the match for the Leopards in goal, recording one save, and was replaced for the second half by Dewar, who was credited with three saves. Their Bucknell counterpart, Hall, played the full 90 minutes and recorded three saves.

The Leopards will travel to West Point, N.Y. to face the Black Knights of Army on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
