Leopards Handle Holy Cross in Three Sets

Nieoporte hammers down match-high 16 kills, hitting .500

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College volleyball team made quick work of visiting Holy Cross in three sets (25-15, 25-21, 25-14) Sunday afternoon inside Kirby Sports Center.

Sophomore Abby Nieporte hit .500 with 16 kills and three service aces while senior Grace Steurer added five kills with 10 digs.

The Leopards jumped out to the early advantage and scored four-straight to force an early Holy Cross timeout with senior Mataya Megson at the service line.

Megson closed the day with two aces and three blocks for the Leopards.

It was a similar scene in the second set as a 3-0 Lafayette run at 22-16 forced the Crusaders timeout after sophomore Carson Grace Toomer's service ace.

The Maroon and White would go on an 8-0 run midway through the third to dominate the final set. The Leopards would close the match out scoring five straight, finishing with a Nieporte kill.

Freshman Carol Ulichney would finish with seven kills while junior Gracie Gibson had five with a block. Sophomore Anna Penman assisted on 32 kills and had three service aces.

As a unit, the Leopards had 13 aces, their most in a Patriot League match and second-most this season, with seven different players recording at least one.

Lafayette will begin its second lap around the Patriot League next weekend, travelling to Worcester for a rematch with the Crusaders on Saturday at 4 p.m.
