ITHACA, N.Y. - The Lafayette women's basketball team came up short in the final seconds in a 62-60 decision to Cornell on Wednesday night.

The Leopards had a season-high four players scoring in double figures led by
Abby Antognoli and
Makayla Andrews with 14 points apiece.
Halee Smith and
Kylie Favours chipped in with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Cornell had three players in double figures with Ania McNicholas leading with 12 and Shannon Mulroy and Ruby Grace Williams adding 10 apiece. The hosts out-rebounded the Leopards by 16, leading to 15 second-chance points. The Big Red also got a 26-point boost from their bench.

Lafayette jumped out in front in the first quarter, with five different players getting on the board to push the Leopards to a 19-13 lead at the break.

The Maroon and White kept up this momentum throughout the rest of the half. Antognoli scored a jumper for her 10th point of the game as the half closed, giving Lafayette a 31-26 lead.

Momentum switched in the third quarter in Cornell's favor. The Big Red opened up the half with a 9-0 scoring run, giving them the 35-31 lead. Summer Parker-Hall put up seven of the nine, totaling nine points on the night.

Andrews drained a three-pointer to even the score at 38 apiece with 3:31 remaining in the third. Cornell's McNicholas responded with one of her own 20 seconds later. Cornell pushed on an 8-0 run before the Leopards rallied on a 6-0 spurt consisting of a foul shot by Andrews, three-pointer by Favours and jumper by Antognoli. The Leopards headed into the fourth quarter down 46-44.

With 3:16 left in the final quarter, Cornell led 60-55. Andrews picked up her fourth foul and subsequently earned a technical foul, forcing her from the game. Mulroy and McNicholas each went 1-for-2 from the line as Cornell extended the lead to 62-55 with 2:43 left.

The Leopards entered the final minute down 62-57. Parker-Hall fouled Lafayette's
Sauda Ntaconayigize, her disqualifying foul that gave Lafayette an opportunity to pick up steam. Ntaconayigize made 1-of-2 from the line, putting Lafayette within four.

With 31 seconds left in the game, Smith picked off a pass and relayed the ball to Booth, who put up a layup to get the Leopards within two. Antognoli immediately grabbed a steal, giving the Leopards possession with 29 seconds on the clock. The Maroon and White called a time out with 17 seconds remaining.

As the Leopards were running down the clock, Antognoli drove to the basket with two seconds remaining for the tying bucket, but it did not fall in the 62-60 final.

The Leopards will stay in New York state for their next game, traveling to Siena on Saturday.
