PRINCETON, N.J.- The Lafayette men's basketball team fell to Princeton, 69-58, on Tuesday evening in Jadwin Gymnasium.
Lafayette's top performance came through sophomore captain
CJ Fulton, earning 16 points while shooting 6-for-10 from the floor and netting all three free throws. The Belfast, Ireland native grabbed eight rebounds and dished out three assists.
The Tigers opened the game with a 10-2 spurt, which was interrupted by a Fulton layup and a 3-pointer from
TJ Berger, 12-7 (13:07). Princeton extended that margin to 11 at 9:45, their largest advantage of the game.
Freshman
Ryan Pettit knocked down a 3-pointer at 7:17, which kickstarted two consecutive stops on defense. Fulton and
Kyle Jenkins, who finished the game with 13 points, added another seven points to close the gap to three, 26-23, at 5:19. A hot shooting night kept the Tigers in the lead for the remainder of the half, thanks to Ryan Langborg's 4-for-9 performance on the floor, two 3-pointers and two free throws.
In the opening minutes of the second half, the Leopards put together a 10-2 run, highlighted by a second Pettit 3-pointer. Two Fulton free throws handed Lafayette its first lead of the game, 40-39, by the 12-minute mark.
The Tigers retaliated with a 12-0 run of their own, fueled by Keeshawn Kellman's seven points, for a 51-40 score with less than eight minutes left to play. The hosts shot 60 percent from the floor in the second half to pull away for the 69-58 final. Langborg led Princeton with 19 points, followed by Kellman (14) and Tosan Evbuomwan (12). Princeton shot 80 percent from the line, converting 16-of-20 attempts for the game.
The Leopards will continue on the road at Quinnipiac on Saturday, with tip-off slated for 1 p.m.
