EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College women's basketball team dropped its game Saturday afternoon to the Lehigh Mountain Hawks 76-52.
The Leopards were led by senior
Naomi Ganpo who recorded her fourth double double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Her 16 points tied her career-high. Freshman
Abby Antognoli was the other Leopard to total double figures points with 13.
Ganpo put Lafayette (8-15, 4-9 PL) on the board first off a layup before Lehigh (17-6, 9-3 PL) tied up the game off two shots from the charity stripe less than two minutes into the game. Junior
Jessica Booth gave the Leopards a 4-2 lead with 7:40 to play, but Lehigh answered with a 5-0 run to take a 7-4 lead.
Ganpo pulled the Leopards within one, putting the score at 7-6, before Lehigh took a 9-6 lead heading into the first quarter media timeout. The two sides then traded buckets to put the score at 13-11 with 2:30 left to play in the quarter. Lehigh pushed the score out to 15-11 a few seconds later and then both sides put in two more points each to send the game into the second quarter with the Mountain Hawks holding a 17-13 lead.
Lafayette added a layup at the start of the second quarter to cut Lehigh's lead down to a basket. The Mountain Hawks responded with a 7-0 run to push out their lead to nine with seven minutes left to play in the quarter. Antongoli broke up the Mountain Hawks run with a jumper to put the score at 24-17 but the game headed into halftime with Lehigh leading 34-22.
Sophomore
Makayla Andrews drew a foul for the Leopards to start off the third quarter and made one of her two extra shots. Booth and Antognoli then extended the Leopards' scoring run to cut Lehigh's lead down to seven.
Lehigh responded with a 4-0 run to take a 38-27 lead with 7:19 left to play in the quarter. Ganpo and the Mountain Hawks then traded buckets putting the score at 42-31 in favor of the visitors.
Freshman
Claire Gallagher, Ganpo and Antongoli put in a combined eight more points for the Leopards, sending the game into the final 10 minutes of action with Lehigh holding a 56-39 lead.
Ganpo once again got the quarter started for the Maroon and White, putting in a jumper and making the score 56-41. The two sides then traded buckets to put the score at 60-45 in favor of Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks then went on a 5-0 run to give Lehigh a 20 point lead.
The Mountain Hawks added 11 points and the Leopards added seven in the final few minutes of the game to bring the final to 76-52 in favor of the visitors.
Lehigh was led by sophomore Mackenzie Kramer who totaled a game-high 29 points. Two other Mountain Hawks recorded double figure points with senior Emma Grothaus totaling 15 and senior Megan Walker totaling 12.
Lafayette returns to the court on Wednesday, traveling to Loyola Maryland for a 7 p.m. tip.
