Boston U Uses Strong Second Half to Top Men’s Hoops

Lafayette turns BU over 17 time and Perry scores 16 in the loss

BOSTON – The Lafayette College men's basketball team led the majority of the way in the first half, but Boston U shot it 67% in the second half to run away with a 76-60 victory Wednesday night in Case Gym.

Senior Tyrone Perry led the way for Lafayette with 16 points and three steals while sophomore Kyle Jenkins scored 13 on 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.

The Leopards played a strong first half, jumping out to a 10-point advantage following an 8-0 run after senior Tomas Verbinskis got to the rim to force a Terrier timeout at 7:59 in the first half.

The Terriers closed the gap, ending the opening 20 minutes on a 10-2 run to go into the locker room with the momentum and a two-point deficit. Early on in the second half, they used an 11-1 run to take control and eventually jump out to an 18-point advantage.

The Leopards trailed by 12 points midway through the half before Jenkins hit a 3-pointer and the immediately forced a steal by freshman Devin Hines to free up Perry for the transition layup to make it a single-digit deficit.

Boston U would outscore Lafayette 10-2 over the next two minutes to escape the threat and regain control.

After shooting nearly 50% in the first half and hitting five first-half 3-pointers, Lafayette struggled to convert in the second, going just 10-for-31 in the second half to shoot 39% in the game.

Junior Neal Quinn also reached double-figures for Lafayette, scoring 12 points with seven rebounds and four assists while Boston U's Javante McCoy had a game-high 24 to lead four Terriers in double-figures.

The Leopards forced BU into 17 turnovers, grabbing a season-high 15 steals as Perry, Quinn and freshman Chris Rubayo each grabbed three.

There is still plenty to play for in the regular-season finale as The Rivalry is the stage for Senior Day and head coach Fran O'Hanlon's final regular season contest when the Leopards host Lehigh Saturday at 2 p.m. inside Kirby Sports Center.
