Women's Basketball Defeats Boston U. on Senior Day

Andrews led all scorers with 18 points

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College women's basketball team defeated the Boston University Terriers, 58-52, on Senior Night in Kirby Sports Center to move to 6-10 in Patriot League action.
 
The Leopards were led in scoring by sophomore Makayla Andrews who recorded 18 points. Senior Makaila Wilson led the Leopards in rebounds with nine, while adding 11 points to her stat line. Junior Jessica Booth was the other Leopard to find herself in double figures points with 15.
 
Boston University (15-12, 11-5 PL) got on the board first with a three-pointer before Andrews put Lafayette (10-16, 6-10 PL) on the board with a layup. Lafayette than went on a 9-0 run to take a 9-3 lead with 3:56 left to play in the first quarter.
 
The Terriers put in a three-point shot to pull within three but freshman Abby Antognoli countered with a jumper to put Lafayette back in front by five. Booth drew a foul and made both of her extra shots to put the score at 13-6, Lafayette. Boston U. added four more points to send the game into the second half with Lafayette holding a 13-10 lead.   
 
The two sides traded jumpers to start off the second quarter to put the score at 15-12 before a three-point basket by the Terriers tied the game up at 15. Booth responded with a three-pointer of her own to break the tie. Andrews added a jumper to put the score at 20-15, Lafayette with 5:37 left in the second half.
 
The Terriers continued to keep the game close throughout the rest of the half but the Leopards headed into the locker with a 26-22 lead.
 
After Boston U. opened up the second half with a layup to pull within two of Lafayette, Antongoli put in back-to-back buckets to put Lafayette back in front by six. From there, Lafayette held a steady lead until with 3:48 left to play in the quarter, the Terriers pulled with three to put the score at 34-31.
 
Sophomore Kayla Drummond responded to Boston's comeback attempt with a layup, immediately followed up by five points by Andrews put Lafayette ahead by 10.  
 
The Terriers put in the final points of the quarter to send the game into the final 10 minutes with Lafayette ahead 41-35.
 
The Leopards opened up the fourth quarter with a 7-0 scoring run to give themselves a 13 point lead with 6:27 left to play. The Terriers responded with a 4-0 run to put the score at 48-39 with just under five minutes to play.
 
A few seconds later, with the score 49-39, Lafayette, Boston put in back-to-back buckets to put itself within six. The Terriers then outscored the Leopards 9-6 in the final minutes, but the Leopards were able to hold off the first-place Terriers for the senior day victory Wednesday night.
 
For the Terriers, Sydney Johnson led the way with 13 points while Maren Durant led with 14 rebounds.  
 
The Leopards will close out the regular season on the road as they are set to travel to Lehigh on Saturday and American on Wednesday. Both games are set for a 7 p.m. tip.
