EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College women's basketball team defeated Navy, 58-51, Wednesday night in Kirby Sports Center to earn the regular season sweep of the Midshipmen.

The Maroon and White were led by freshman
Claire Gallagher's career-high 21 points. Sophomore
Makayla Andrews chipped in with 11 points, while senior
Makaila Wilson recorded a team-leading and career-high 18 rebounds.

Freshman
Abby Antognoli totaled a career-high 10 assists to go along with seven points and four rebounds.

Antognoli put Lafayette (8-14, 4-8, PL) on the board first with a three-point basket to give the Leopards an early 3-0 lead. Andrews quickly followed up Antognoli's three-point shot with a jumper to give Lafayette a 5-0 lead.

Navy (7-15, 4-8 PL) got its first points on the board with a jumper at the 7:54 mark before Wilson put in her first bucket of the game to make it 7-2 Lafayette. The Midshipmen responded with a layup to pull the score within three and then Gallagher put in her second basket of the night to send the game into the first media timeout with Lafayette up by five.

After Andrews came out of the timeout with a basket for the Leopards, Navy went on a 5-0 run to pull the score within two, 11-9. The game eventually headed into the second quarter with the Leopards in the lead, 16-14.

Navy opened the second quarter with a 5-0 run to put itself in the lead, 19-16. Sophomore
Kayla Drummond put in a jumper to pull Lafayette back within one before Navy put in a shot from beyond the arc to push out its lead to four. Â

Gallagher drained a three-pointer to pull Lafayette back within one, 22-21, before Navy jumped out to a 27-21 lead with 3:48 left to play in the half. The Midshipmen then extended their lead to head into halftime with a 31-23 lead.

The Midshipmen put in the first bucket of the second half to extend their lead before back-to-back baskets by Gallagher and Andrews pulled Lafayette within eight. Navy responded with a jumper to put the score at 36-28. The Leopards then put in four point to pull themselves within two, 36-34, forcing Navy to call a timeout.

The Midshipmen came out of the timeout and made a shot from the charity stripe but Antongoli and Wilson made back-to-back layups to put the Leopards in the lead 38-37 with 1:55 left in the quarter. Lafayette then pushed out its lead to head into the fourth quarter with the score 41-39.

The Maroon and White held the Midshipmen to just eight points in the third quarter.

Freshman
Kylie Favours kept the momentum going for the Leopards at the start of the fourth quarter with a shot from beyond the arc to put the score at 44-39. The Midshipmen answered with a 5-0 run to tie the game up at 44-44 with 7:42 left to play in the game.

Gallagher broke the tie with a three-point bucket to put Lafayette ahead 47-44 before she followed up her basket with a jumper to put Lafayette ahead by five.

The Midshipmen start to chip away at the Leopards lead and pulled within one, 49-48, forcing Lafayette to call a timeout.

Andrews came out of the timeout with a two-point bucket to put the score at 51-48, Lafayette, with 3:25 left to play. Navy once again tied up the game with a three-point basket before Gallagher broke the tie again with a three-point basket of her own to give Lafayette a 54-51 lead.

Lafayette added on five more points and hung on to earn the 58-51 victory on Wednesday night, to snap its eight game skid and move to 4-8 in Patriot League action.

Navy was led by senior Jennifer Coleman who led all player with a double double, totaling 22 points and 20 rebounds. Sophomore Sydne Watts was the other Midshipmen to find herself in double digit points with 12. Coleman also led Navy in assists with four and steals with two.

Lafayette will remain at home for its next game on Saturday as the Leopards are set to welcome crosstown rivals Lehigh to Kirby Sports Center for a 2 p.m. game. Saturday's game is also the Leopards alumni game. Â
