Siena Outlasts Softball in Extra Innings

Bickett and Roman each drive in three runs

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – It took extra innings to decide the Leopards' Sunday morning matchup with Siena at The Spring Games.

Tied 10 apiece, Lafayette had two runners on in the top of the eighth, but could not push across the go-ahead run. As the game moved to the bottom half, Siena advanced its runner from second to third with a single by Kyleigh Potter (3-for-3). The game-winning run scored on a wild pitch for the 11-10 final.

Lafayette led early on in the game, ahead 3-1 after two innings thanks to freshman Harlie Bickett's bases-clearing, three-run double.

The Leopards added two each in the fourth (Julia Roman double), fifth (Grace Harvey double) and sixth (Paige Sandidge two-run homer) innings to lead 9-6. The advantage was short-lived as Siena answered with four runs in the home half to capture a 10-9 lead.

Lafayette sent the top of the order to the plate in the seventh inning, needing a run. Bickett (3-for-5) contributed a one-out double and Harvey's infield single put runners on the corners. Freshman Kaya Ciccone-Cozart loaded the bases following a walk. Roman came to the plate and hit a bouncing grounder to third base. The throw came to home plate, but Bickett was able to slide in and knot the game at 10-10.

Freshman Morrigan Gardiner worked a quick bottom of the seventh in the circle for the Leopards before the game moved to extra innings and runners were placed on second base utilizing the international tiebreaker. Siena finished the game, the Leopards' second extra-inning game in two days, with a run in the eighth.

Lafayette will face Merrimack later today.
