EASTON, Pa.-Â The Lafayette women's lacrosse team was defeated by the first opponent of the Patriot League schedule, American, on Saturday, 13-9.
Three Leopards scored twice today:
Abby Romano,
Olivia Cunningham and
Sara Rogers.
Clare Culligan,
Meghan McLachlan and
Katie Chiasson all scored one apiece.
Lafayette's assists came from
Sarah Bennett and Cunningham.
The Eagles' Stefanie Walsh totaled six goals, with the addition of two from Maddy Spratt and one apiece from Emma Vinall, Kendall Goldblum, Becca Frank, Katie Pierce and Alyssa Apuzzo.
American's assists came from Walsh, Goldblum, Spratt and Hali Sibilia.
The Maroon and White had the advantage in shots (31-26) and ground balls (18-11), but fell behind in draw controls (18-8) and clears (13-13 to 15-17). The Eagles were 4-8 in free-position shots, while the Leopards went 5-12.
Lafayette's
Lexie Coldiron made nine saves in the loss, while her American counterpart, Mary Alice Collins, made 16.
The Leopards hit the road to face Bucknell next Saturday.
