LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Lafayette women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-9 decision to Patriot League foe Bucknell on Saturday afternoon.
Junior midfielder Kate Chiasson led the Leopard offensive attack with three goals while senior Oilivia Cunningham added a pair of her own scores along with an assist.
Trailing 2-0 in the first quarter, Cunningham fired a shot, assisted by
Sara Rogers, into the net to get Lafayette on the board at 10:27. The Bison tallied five goals after it in the first quarter to lead 7-1 at the end of the first quarter.
Bucknell's Caroline Miller struck first in the second period at 14:28. The Bison continued their scoring streak for one more goal until junior attacker
Meghan McLachlan found the net through traffic at 12:06.
Chiasson made a successful free position shot at 9:53 and scored again at 2:03 to bookend four goals from Bucknell to end the half. Bucknell led 13-4.
Sophomore midfielder
Abby Romano netted her 10th goal of the year off of a bounce shot at 12:36 in the third quarter. The Leopards seemed to be rejuvenated, as
Clare Culligan tallied her first goal of the game, assisted by Cunningham at 9:18.
Sarah Bennett, assisted by Rogers, scored just a minute later to cut the Bison lead down to six. Cunningham added another score 20 seconds later. Chiasson extended the Leopard scoring streak at 0:39, putting all her energy into the shot to complete her hat trick. The Bison remained scoreless the entire third quarter.
Bucknell's drought stopped early in the fourth with a pair of goals by Emma Cashwell and one from Allie Boyce at 3:52 to sealed the 16-9 final.
For the game, the Bison held the advantage in shots (38-21), ground balls (21-16), draw controls (18-11) and clears (20-21 to 18-22).
Lafayette's
Lexie Coldiron made 12 saves in the loss, while her Bucknell counterpart, Colleen Kazanjian, made 10.
The Leopards return to action on Wednesday when they host Navy at 7:30 p.m.
