RICHMOND, Va. – The Lafayette College baseball team defeated VCU on Friday in Richmond, 3-0, to win its second-straight game and move to 2-7 on the season.

The Leopards were led by junior
Pete Ciuffreda who went 1 for 4 with one run and one RBI. Freshman
Easton Brenner led the team in runs with two and senior
Dylan Minghini, junior
Kyle Chmielewski, freshman
Michael Zarrillo, freshman
Carter Dorighi all each totaled a hit.

Starting pitcher sophomore
Luke Benneche went seven innings, striking out seven. He earned his first win of the season and helped hold VCU (2-6, 0-0 A10) scoreless. Senior pitcher
Jordan Yoder came in for two innings of relief, striking out three and earning his first save of the season.

Lafayette (2-7, 0-0 PL) threatened in the top of the second after Chmielewski doubled down the left field line with one out. A batter later, Dorighi singled through the left side and Chmielewski advanced to third, rounded the bag to try to score but was thrown out at home plate.

The Leopards were able to put runs across the plate in the fourth. Brenner led off the inning with a walk and then stole second to put himself in scoring position. Ciuffreda singled to right field to score Brenner and put Lafayette ahead 1-0.

Ciuffreda then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the Ram's catcher. The next batter, Zarrillo, singled with two outs to bring Ciuffreda home and put Lafayette up 2-0.

The Lafayette Nine struck again in the top of the sixth adding a run after Brenner scored on a fielding error by the Ram's shortstop to put Lafayette ahead by three.

Benneche threw one more inning of work and then Yoder came in for three innings of scoreless relief to secure to 3-0 win.

With the win, the Leopards evened this season's regular season series 1-1 after the Ram's defeated the Leopard's earlier this season 13-3.

The Maroon and White return to the field Saturday March 5 to take on William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., at 1 p.m. The Leopards will wrap up their weekend trip on Sunday against Richmond at 12 p.m.
