Bucknell Defeats Lafayette, 7-2, in Series Finale

Minghini and Dorighi each drove in a run

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lafayette College baseball team dropped a 7-2 decision at Bucknell on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the weekend series. The Leopards now stand at 6-5 in Patriot League action.

The Leopards were led by senior Dylan Minghini and freshman Carter Dorighi who each recorded an RBI. Junior Pete Ciuffreda led the Maroon and White in hits with three. Starting pitcher junior Jordan Yoder went three innings while junior Nolan Morr came in for four innings of relief while sophomore Joe Pence pitched one.

Bucknell (14-16, 10-5 PL) exploded for four runs in the bottom of the first and three in the bottom of the third to take an early 7-0 lead heading into the fourth inning.

Lafayette (11-23, 6-5 PL) put its first run across the plate in the top of the sixth after freshman Easton Brenner started off the inning reaching base after being hit by a pitch. Ciuffreda then singled through the right side, advancing Brenner to third.
With runners on the corners, Minghini hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Brenner and put the score at 7-1.

The Lafayette Nine added one more run in the top of the eighth after Brenner once again was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. He then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Ciuffreda drew a walk to put runners on first and second. Minghini was then hit by a pitch to load the bases for Dorighi who hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Brenner to put another Leopard run across the plate.

Pence got the Bison in order in the bottom of the eighth and then the Leopards could not get a rally started in top of the ninth as Bucknell secured the weekend series win.

Next up for the Leopards is a midweek non-conference test against Rutgers on Tuesday at 3 p.m. The Leopards will then return to Patriot League action on April 16 and 17 when they welcome Army to Kamine for a three-game series.
