Baseball Drops Sunday Game on Senior Day

Freshman Carter Dorighi recorded his first collegiate home run

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette baseball team dropped the final game of the weekend series, 3-1, to the Holy Cross Crusaders on Sunday afternoon to close out the regular season home schedule. The Leopards now move to 8-10 in Patriot League play.

The Leopards were led by freshman Carter Dorighi who went 2-for-4 with his first collegiate home run. Starting pitcher senior Kyle Subers went five scoreless innings in his final game at Kamine, striking out four. Junior Nolan Morr and junior Jordan Yoder came in for one inning of relief each, and junior Jacob Ciccone came in for two innings of relief.

Lafayette (13-29, 8-10 PL) scored first in the bottom of the second off a solo home run by Dorighi to go up 1-0.

The Leopards had a chance to add to their lead in the bottom of the third with runners on the corners and two outs, but Dorighi struck out to end the inning and leave both runners stranded.

Holy Cross (11-32, 6-11 PL) plated two runs off an RBI single to center field to take the lead in the top of the seventh. The Crusaders then added one more run in the top of the ninth off a solo home run by sophomore Jake McElroy to take a 3-1 lead.

The Lafayette Nine tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth with freshman Kaleb Willis hitting a two out single to left field and then advancing to second on a wild pitch. The next batter and tying run, junior Pete Ciuffreda, grounded out to the Crusader's second basemen for the final out of the game.

Prior to Sunday's game, the program honored its nine seniors, Justin Johnson, Zach Savage, Kyle Subers, Frank Craska, Evan Kiah, Dylan Minghini, Ethan O'Connor, Jake Bloss, and Jordan Yoder, for their years of hard work and dedication to the program.

The Leopards will step out of Patriot League play on Wednesday, April 27 for a mid-week test at Seton Hall. They will then return to Patriot League action on Saturday, April 30 as they will travel to Navy for a doubleheader.
