BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lafayette cross country team continued its season on Friday afternoon with a dual meet at Lehigh. Senior Becky Hartman turned in an outstanding performance as the top overall finisher for the Lafayette women. The Mountain Hawks captured the women's competition 23-34 and won the men's race 17-40.
Hartman was the event's top overall finisher, clocking a time of 22:04.00 in the 25-runner field. Classmate Rachel Hurley finished less than a second behind, placing fourth overall (22.31.70). Junior Emma Lorey and freshman Elizabeth Borah joined their teammates both with top-10 finishes. Lorey finished at eighth (22.52.20) while Borah was ninth (22.08.90).
For the men, sophomore Emil Arangala led the way for the Leopards, finishing fifth overall in the 25-runner field with a time of 25:48.20. Finishing two seconds behind him was junior Alex Gent who ended in sixth place with a time of 25:50.70. Two more Leopards joined Arangala and Gent in the top 10. Sophomore A.J Sanford's final time of 25:57.70 was good enough for an eighth-place finish. Freshman Titan Casey cracked the top 10, placing ninth (26:06.10).
The Leopards will be back in action on Sept. 30 at the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa.
