Collier and Kazemi Claim All-League Honors at PL Championships

Women’s XC garners two laurels in the same year for the first time since 1993

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Maroon and White competed at the Patriot League Championships hosted by Bucknell on Saturday morning with the women finishing sixth and the men tenth.

Juniors Kendall Collier and Anya Kazemi lead the team for the fifth consecutive meet, finishing fourth and 11th overall with final times of 20:43.2 and 21:01.9, respectively. The two classmates also earned All-Patriot League recognition. Collier was named to the first team and Kazemi to the second, securing the women two honors in the same year for the first time since 1993.

Rounding out their top five were seniors Ava Severino in 38th (21:55.9) and Bridget Shaver in 55th (22:17.7) and freshman Grace Houlihan in 67th (22:30.1).

"All year we set the expectation of being a sixth-place team for the third time in four years, and the women delivered. We thought on a great day, fifth was a possibility, and being only seven points back of doing so says a lot about how far our program has come. Bridget and Ava have provided leadership all year, and I am very proud of them and all of our women who competed today," associate head coach Anthony Dentino said. "Kendall and Anya in particular pieced together two of the best performances in Lafayette cross country history as we have not had two women's All-League finishers in the same year since 1993. They each ran such methodical, smart races and really earned their places on the All-Patriot League Team today."

Leading the way for the men was junior Alec Miner, finishing 59th with a final time of 25:55.7. Rookie Brandon Williams collected 70th, finishing with a time of 26:06.3. Closing out the top five were juniors David Whitford (76th, 26:14.7) and Cole Scattergood (80th, 26:21.3) and freshman Hudson Schunk (81st, 26:23.2).

"Though our overall effort was good, we really struggled today. Finishing 10th is disappointing for the program and not at all indicative of the growth we've had this season," Dentino acknowledged. "Sometimes, young teams need to learn through experience, and while it is a tough pill to swallow, it is an opportunity for us to come together and grow. We need to challenge ourselves to do so, and I am confident we have the right group and right mentality to do so."

Adrienne Buettner-Cable of Boston University and Dane Eike of Navy enjoyed the individual victories.

The Leopards are back in competition at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals hosted by Lehigh on Friday, Nov. 13 at 12 p.m.
