Leopards Fall to Lehigh

Lafayette travels to American on Sunday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lafayette women's soccer team was defeated by rival Lehigh University 2-0 this evening at the Ulrich Sports Complex.

The Mountain Hawks opened the scoring early when in the eighth minute a Lehigh corner kick came down on one bounce to Ryelle Shuey who chipped a shot past Lafayette senior goalkeeper Natalie Neumann. Corinne Lyght was credited with an assist on the goal.

In the 33rd minute, Lehigh's Ava Schaller made a few nifty moves to free herself from her defender and lobbed a shot to the upper left corner of the goal and past Neumann, giving the Mountain Hawks a 2-0 lead.

Lafayette finished the evening with six shots, one of which was on goal. Lehigh took 18 shots, with seven on goal.  The Leopards were led by freshman April McDonald and senior Sara Oswald who both had two shots, with one of Oswald's shots being on goal. Senior Haley Pursel and junior Emily Coe had one shot each.

Neumann played the first 45 minutes in goal for the Leopards and recorded three saves. She was replaced by junior Lindsay Dewar for the second half. Dewar was credited with two saves. Their Lehigh counterpart Maggie Ousouljoglou played all 90 minutes and recorded one save.

The Maroon and White travel to Washington D.C. to play American University on Sunday at 1 p.m.
